What size should I get?

Women's sizes follow your US shoe size: Small fits 4 to 6.5, Medium fits 7 to 9.5, Large fits 10 to 12.5, and X-Large fits 13 to 15. If you're between sizes, size down, since the merino and spandex blend stretches for a snug fit. If you have wide or high-volume feet, size up. See the full size guide.

Which cushion is best for running?

Ultralight has no cushion, just a thin knit, so it's our coolest running sock. It's best for racing, hot-weather runs and snug, fast shoes. For a little protection underfoot, Light Cushion is our best everyday running sock. For long trail runs, rocky ground and cold mornings, try Medium Cushion, as long as your shoes have room. How high does a 1/4 top sock come up?

It sits just above the ankle, so it covers the ankle bone and keeps trail grit out of your shoes. For less coverage on the road, try our No-Show running socks.

Will these help prevent blisters?

Fit matters more than thickness. Blisters come from friction and moisture, so a sock that stays put and doesn't crowd your shoe helps most. Merino wicks sweat to keep feet drier, and the thin ultralight knit leaves the most room in snug shoes. Try your running shoes on with the socks you'll wear.

How should I wash them?

Turn them inside out, machine wash cold or warm with like colors, and tumble dry on low to warm heat. Skip bleach and fabric softener, because softener can reduce wicking. Every sock is preshrunk, but high heat can still shrink wool over time. Full tips are in our washing guide.

I love these socks: wool, thin, enough stretch to stay put while running, high enough at the ankle to not slide down into one's shoe. And, of course, comfortable. As an ultrarunner, I create holes in the toes of EVERY sock I have ever used (barring those from one company whose products have become hard to get.)
