Men's Ultralight Merino Wool Hiking Sock - Crew

Our lightest men's merino wool hiking sock doesn't compromise on comfort, and neither should you when you head outside. Built for day hikes, thru-hikes, and any warm-weather adventure, this ultralight crew sock delivers all-day breathability without sacrificing performance.

Cloudline's merino wool is naturally moisture-wicking and odor-resistant, keeping your feet cool, dry, and fresh mile after mile. The ultralight construction delivers a barely-there feel underfoot, while the soft wool blend never itches, bunches, or slouches. The crew height provides ideal coverage on brushy, dense trails, and a precision fit means you can lace up, hit the trail, and not think twice about your feet.

The perfect men's ultralight hiking sock for warm weather, fast-and-light days, and everything in between. Perfect for day hiking, thru-hiking, backpacking, and summer trail adventures.

SOCK FEATURES

▪︎ Hikes are better with dry feet — period. Our moisture-wicking merino wool blend keeps sweat at bay for long-lasting blister-free comfort.

▪︎ Hiking in the summer doesn’t mean your socks have to stink. Our socks are naturally odor-resistant for high adventure odor control.

▪︎ You don’t have to choose between comfort and durability - our socks have both. Made from soft, itch-free merino wool, they’re reinforced in the heel and toe.

▪︎ Chilly mornings can lead to scorching afternoons, so we built a sock to handle either. Temperature-regulating merino wool helps keep those feet happy from dawn to dusk.

▪︎ These socks have been tested on our backyard trails — the wild and rugged Pacific Northwest.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size should I get?

Men's sizes follow your US shoe size: Small Youth 3 - 5.5, Medium fits 6 to 8.5, Large fits 9 to 11.5, and X-Large fits 12 to 14.5. If you're between sizes, size down, since the merino and spandex blend stretches for a snug fit. If you have wide or high-volume feet, size up. See the full size guide.

When should I choose ultralight?

Ultralight has no cushion, just a thin knit, so it's our coolest and most breathable hiking sock. It's best for summer hikes, hot climates and snug shoes, and the merino still wicks sweat and resists odor. For more padding underfoot, try our Light Cushion. For boots and cold weather, Medium Cushion is warmer. Our cushion guide compares all three.

Will they shrink in the wash?

Every Cloudline sock is washed and preshrunk before it's packaged, so the fit stays consistent. High dryer heat can still shrink wool over many washes, so tumble dry on low to warm heat or line dry.

How should I wash them?

Turn them inside out, machine wash cold or warm with like colors, and tumble dry on low to warm heat. Skip bleach and fabric softener, because softener can reduce wicking. On the trail they hand wash and air dry quickly. Full tips are in our washing guide.

What does the lifetime guarantee cover?

If your socks ever get a hole, or your dog eats your favorite pair, send us the guarantee form with your order number, or the name and email you ordered with. Our in-house team will replace them.

How do these compare to Darn Tough and Smartwool?

All three make excellent merino hiking socks. This one is 59% merino, 34% nylon and 7% spandex. It's knit in Fort Payne, Alabama and backed by a lifetime guarantee, at $22.99 a pair or $53.99 for a 3-pack ($18 a pair). See our side-by-side comparison of durability, guarantees and value.

My favorite socks

Great, comfortable, durable socks

Comfortable

Just the right thickness. I have various foot pains and the thinness of the sock allows my feet to move freely.

Great socks - 1 recommendation

These are great USA-made socks at a reasonable price, but 1 recommendation: broaden out the width of the toe area a bit. A little more wiggle room here would help a lot.

These are my favorite socks

I bought this pair for my partner for a gift, but I have several pairs myself. I spent all the holidays talking the socks up, and he was happy with this gift. He wears a size 15 shoe, so I was worried that they would be small for him. He said they were snug, but expects they will stretch a bit. He has never worn wool socks and was pleasantly surprised that they didn't make his feet hot. I highly recommend these for everyone!

The guarantee works!

I wear the ultra lite hiking sock in dark gray as my everyday sock. Because it’s mostly wool I alternate between 2 pairs for a whole week, so just 2 pairs per week to wash instead of 7. Makes travel easier too. After a few years they looked thin and worn on the bottom. I sent in pics showing the wear and they sent me new socks. Easy!

Okay

The socks themselves were not too bad, but when I got the email about celebrating "pride" month, telling me that we should be proud of what God says is sinful and immoral and unnatural, I realized that the company did not seem to value all of its customers, but preferred to be divisive and reject all who have traditional and biblical moral values. Rather than simply making good products and running a good business, the leaders showed lack of wisdom by emailing customers and promoting what is wrong and contrary to the beliefs of many customers. That is enough to tell me that the leaders of the company value promoting extremist social issues more than valuing all of the customers. I will look elsewhere for socks.

Hiking socks

These are lightweight and comfortable. We bought them for our son who “hates”
wool socks, but he loves these!

Ultra light hiking socks

Great socks. I own 6 pairs. The only I noticed was the orange ones for whatever reason are tighter than all my other ones. They are all supposed to be the same size.

I’ve worn these socks for a couple years now. The fit of these socks is great and their durability is the same. Great in the cold and in the heat. My wife and teenage sons all love them as well.

Best hiking sock

This was the sock I used on the Rae Lakes loop. I dried them at the end of each day and then wore the next day. No blisters. I’m a believer in a no cushion approach to my socks while hiking and these are the best you can buy.

Ran smaller than expected

This being my third order I was surprised that the ultralight hiking sock was noticeably smaller and therefore tighter than the other socks I've order of the same size. I'm a fan of your socks but was disappointed with this pair.

10 Hours and Still Smiling

I had not tried the Ultralight hiking socks yet. I worked over 10 hours, wearing them and my feet were still ready for more.

Good Socks!

Good quality socks! I’m telling all of my friends about them. I hope that they last a long time. I’ve been wearing them for about a month now, and they have become my favorite. There are a few pills forming, but they seem sound. My socks don’t smell bad even after I work in my rubber boots. Crazy.

Perfect compliment to the rest of my collection

I have the No-Show running socks for running and other athletic endeavors. I have the knee high compression for wear under high boots and colder weather. These will be great for work boot and casual work wear.

Hiking & walking (with the CloudLine Hiking Sock Ultralite)

This is my first purchase (I also bought an Ultralight Ski Sock) from CloudLine. I bought the color granite, and as one expects it looks just like the picture on the website. Not all companies have the same idea, so it's refreshing to see that CloudLine does! The socks fit perfectly and are very comfortable. I'm brining them along today to try on some new hiking boots, as the boots I have are really hiking and walking shoes. thanks Cloudline!

BTW, I had a few pre-sale questions which were answered quickly and made my decision on which socks to buy. It was so nice to have kind, thoughtful, authentic people giving advice who actually know and actually use the product. My purchase process was easy and delivery was on-time.

Fantastic

When I first thought “wool socks??? Didn’t that go away back in the day? “
But I was pleasantly surprised when I took the chance of trying wool socks
I researched how wool will keep your feet and body warm even if it’s wet Lee sucks or unparallelled to any other sucks I’ve ever had and these are the only ones I will wear now they’re super comfortable they don’t rip apart and lose their shape like other socks made of a different material I will always order from cloud line apparel

Great socks!

OK, full disclosure, I am a hiker, an aircraft mechanic, a woodworker, on my feet all day. (PS, I'm in my '80's). I have tried numerous socks from numerous brands. These are the best. Bar none.
